this morning it looked like it was going to be one of those new england summer days...cool, clear, and sunny...that we haven't had many of in the last few weeks. so i went to allandale farm which is one of my favorite places in boston. quite a few other people had the same idea. it was crowded. the tomatoes are starting to come in and there was lots of corn and squash. as i waited in line to pay i kept hearing these birds squawking. it was a bunch of babies in the nest in the picture above on the right.

so i took my loot home and it started to thunderstorm which inspired me to do some baking... in my great-grandmother's apron (see above left). i had seen these little hand pies on angry chicken's blog and decided to try to adapt them to the blueberries i bought at the farm. they came out quite well. they do leak a lot so be sure to put a pan beneath them if you try this. so easy and so good.

it was still storming so i decided to work on the bread i'd been reading about in a book called artisan bread in five minutes a day, given to me by one lovely, thoughtful person for my birthday. it is as easy as the the book claims and it was delicious. no kneading, no waiting, and i have a batch of dough in the fridge ready to go whenever i want. perfect.

the heat gets to me but this is summer at its best.
